Evidence
- Change alert emails.
- Screenshots of your old profile.
Step 1: the route, in order
Work through the steps below in order. Skipping ahead usually costs time.
- Check whether the name is held by an active account, an inactive one, or by someone posing as you.
- If you own a registered trademark, use the platform's trademark report and include the registration details.
- If the account pretends to be you or your business, use the impersonation report with ID or business documents.
- If the name was yours and was taken in a hack, recover the account first, then report the holder with the change emails.
- If none of these apply, pick a clean variation; platforms do not release names just because they are wanted.
Step 2: proof to gather
- Links to the account using the name.
- Screenshots showing your earlier use of the name.
- Trademark registration number, office and class.
- Security emails showing the username change, for hacked names.
Step 3: what to write
- Show the connection between you and the name with documents, not opinion.
- Name the exact username and the account that holds it.
- Keep trademark and impersonation reports separate; each form asks for different proof.
Common mistakes
- Repeated reports from many accounts.
- Buying a username from the holder or a broker; it breaks platform rules and can be reversed.
- Filing false reports against an account that is not misusing your name.
Step 4: after submitting
- Reports are answered by email; keep that inbox watched.
- If the name is released to you, change it straight away.
- If refused, ask whether a different route fits, such as impersonation instead of trademark.
Step 5: if you are stuck
- Your own name was moved to another account in a hack.
- The name matches a registered brand you own.
What to send
- Your username or profile link.
- A screenshot of the notice or error, with the date visible.
- Which email or phone is on the account (just which one, never a code).
- What happened before it started, in a few lines.
Please do not send passwords, login codes, card numbers or access tokens.
