TikTok banned after someone else used it

Steps

1. Report the hack.
2. Appeal the ban.

Step 1: the route, in order

Work through the steps below in order. Skipping ahead usually costs time.

1. Open TikTok on the phone you normally use. Go to Profile, the menu, Settings and privacy, then Account status (on some versions it sits under Account).
2. Each violation listed there shows the reason and, for most, an Appeal button. Appeal the ones you think are wrong, one at a time.
3. If the app shows a banned-account screen when you open it, use the appeal option on that screen.
4. For a hack, go to Settings and privacy, Report a problem, then Account and profile, and choose the hacked option. If you cannot log in, use TikTok's online feedback form.
5. Turn off any VPN and use your usual network while you do this.

Step 2: proof to gather

• For hacks: the original email or phone and any TikTok change emails.
• Screenshots of Account status and the ban notice.
• The device you first signed up on, if you still have it.
• Your username and the email or phone on the account.

Step 3: what to write

• In the appeal box, say which video or action you think was misread and why, in one or two sentences.
• If someone else used the account, say so and give the approximate date.
• Avoid long explanations; TikTok's appeal form gives limited space.

Common mistakes

• Paying for 'unban' services that ask for your password.
• Using a third-party app that promises followers or likes.
• Making a new account during a ban; TikTok can ban linked accounts.

Step 4: after submitting

• Watch the inbox in the app and the email on the account.
• If the appeal is accepted, the violation is removed from Account status.
• If refused, request your data from Settings and privacy, Account, Download your data, while the option is open.

Step 5: if you are stuck

• The account was hacked and the email and phone were changed.
• There is no appeal button left.
• The account is a creator account with income at stake.

What to send

• Your username or profile link.
• A screenshot of the notice or error, with the date visible.
• Which email or phone is on the account (just which one, never a code).
• What happened before it started, in a few lines.

Please do not send passwords, login codes, card numbers or access tokens.
